(and breaking out of the millennial hamster wheel)
Like many good girl millennials, I went to college because I was told it would make me marketable and smart and someday rich. I didn't have any one passion or life calling and I took classes in Marketing, Sewing, Communications, and eventually ended up pursuing a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. After graduating with my Bachelors degree, I started applying to masters programs to become a therapist when I did not, in fact, want to be a therapist.
I was sitting on the floor in the kitchen at my parents house, visiting during valentines week and putting together floral arrangements as a side hustle. I told my dad, "Someday, when I am old and rich, I will have a flower shop. I won't make any money, I'll just have a pretty store and make flowers all day."
He asked me, why not now?
He came up with the idea to have a mobile flower shop, like a food truck but for flowers. Together, we spent a whole Covid year renovating an old 1970s camper to be my flower shop. We drove it to Utah together where I started my business, and eventually I ended up back in my home town of Sacramento, California.
Today, I work in my little flower shop which we affectionately named The Flower Wagon. I do wedding flowers all over Northern California and also sell at farmers markets and holiday fairs.
The Flower Wagon can be set up at your baby shower, bridal shower, or corporate event as a flower bar. Guests get to be involved in an interactive activity and build their own bouquet. It's a great photo op and everyone goes home with a pretty party favor.
Building The Flower Wagon and having a job where I create beautiful art and meet so many beautiful souls has been my breath, my life saver. It was breaking free of the mold I thought I had to fit into, the path I thought was the only one available to me. I love having a non traditional job and creating non traditional arrangements and installations.
If you would like a piece of our magic, we can't wait to introduce you to The Flower Wagon.
